arkival's fast dial is a browser extension that shows your bookmarks as quick-dial tiles on the New Tab page. This policy explains what data the extension uses and where it stays.
Summary
arkival's fast dial does not collect, send, sell or share any of your data. There is no account, no server, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. Everything the extension uses stays in your browser.
What the extension uses, and where it stays
- Bookmarks: your tiles are ordinary bookmarks in a folder called `ark-fd`. The extension reads that folder and changes bookmarks only inside it, when you add, edit, move or remove a tile. Bookmarks outside this folder are not changed.
- Settings and layout: your settings, box positions, workspaces and profiles are saved in your browser's extension storage.
- Page previews: screenshots or images you choose for tiles are saved locally on your computer only.
- Backups: automatic backups are saved locally on your computer. Exported backup files are saved only where you choose.
- Open tabs: the extension looks at the address and title of a tab only to add the current page as a tile, or to match a page you opened from the dashboard to its tile for a preview. This information is used inside your browser and is never stored elsewhere or sent anywhere.
Sync between your devices
If you have turned on your browser's sync (for example a Google, Brave or Firefox account), your browser may sync your bookmarks and the extension's settings between your devices. That sync is run by your browser provider under their privacy policy. arkival's fast dial has no access to it and runs no server of its own.
Permissions
The extension asks only for what its features need:
- Bookmarks: to show and manage your tiles.
- Storage and unlimited storage: to save settings, previews and backups locally.
- Tabs and active tab: to add the current page and to take a preview screenshot when you ask for it.
- Context menus: for the "Add to fast dial" right-click item.
- Favicon (Chromium browsers): to show site icons from your browser's own icon cache.
- Optional: access to all sites. Requested only if you turn on automatic page previews. It lets the extension take screenshots of pages you open from the dashboard. The screenshots stay on your computer.
- Optional, Firefox only: browser settings. Requested only if you use a feature that needs it. You can refuse.
Third parties
The extension does not contact any third-party service. The "Buy me a coffee" link opens buymeacoffee.com only when you click it.
Your control
- You can see and edit your tiles in your browser's bookmarks manager at any time.
- Removing the extension deletes its stored settings, previews and local backups. Your bookmarks stay unless you delete the `ark-fd` folder yourself.
- Backup files you exported stay where you saved them. They can contain page screenshots, so share them with care.
Children
The extension does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
